Q.        What is the City tax rate?

A.         The current combined rate for a retail sale in Longmont is 8.715%.  Here is the breakdown.

Q.        What do I need to do to start a business in Longmont?

A.         You must obtain a Sales and Use Tax License for the City of Longmont.  Any person, company or other entity must have this license to do business in the City of Longmont.  The license is required even if there are no taxable sales. 

 

Q.        Is there a cost for the Sales and Use Tax License?

A.         Yes, there is a $25.00 one-time processing fee for the license.  There is no renewal fee.  The license is good until cancelled by the owner.

 

Q.        How do I obtain a City of Longmont Sales and Use Tax License?

A.         There are two ways to apply:

1)  You can apply online at https://longmont.munirevs.com/register/business/ (Reminder if you use the online application you must pay using an electronic check, credit or debit card)

2)  You can fill out a hard copy application at our office or it can be obtained by going to the City Web site www.longmontcolorado.gov or calling 303-651-8672 (Reminder you can only make cash or check payments with this option)

 

Q.        Do I need any other licenses?

A.         The Longmont City Clerk's office issues licenses for specific industries.  They can be reached at

            (303) 651-8649.  You should also contact the State Department of Revenue at (303) 238-7378 for

            Information regarding any State licensing requirements.

 

Q.        When filling out my return do I round to the nearest dollar?

A.         Use dollars and cents when completing the City of Longmont Sales & Use Tax return.


Q.        What do I do when I need to amend one of my tax forms? 

A.         Amended return requests are completed by the City of Longmont. Please email Richard.Eastis@longmontcolorado.gov letting the city know you need to file an amended return. In the email, please include: 

  1. Ten-digit account number and business name
  2. Period you need to amend (i.e. June 2021 form due July 20, 2021)
  3. If you overpaid or underpaid your original form
  4. Brief explanation as to why the form needs to be amended.



Q.        Does the City provide a listing of new businesses to the area?  If so, is there a cost?

A.         Yes, the City does provide a listing of new businesses.  Photocopy lists cost $0.15 per page.  Email

            copies are sent at no cost.  Please call 303-651-8672 to be put on the email list.

 

Q.        Do I have to file a return for periods that had no sales?

A.         A return must be filed for every period even if no tax is due or sales made.

 

Q.        If I am a contractor, and all of the taxes are paid on the building permit, why do I have to obtain a

            Sales & Use Tax license?

A.        There has been a change to the City Code - if you are a contractor, you have a City of Longmont contractor's license, you always pull a permit for your projects (paying use tax on materials at the time a permit is pulled) and you don't collect any City of Longmont sales tax. You do not have to get a City of Longmont Sales & Use Tax License.

 

Q.        If I am in a service business, and do not sell tangible personal property, why do I have to obtain a

      Sales   & Use Tax license?

A.         The City Code says that if you are "Engaged in business" in the City of Longmont you must have a

            Sales & Use Tax license.

R.        Necesita que obtener una Licencia de Impuestos de Ventas y Uso de La Ciudad de Longmont.  Cualquier persona, empresa u otra entidad debe tener esta licencia para operar en La Ciudad de Longmont.  Se requiere la licencia aunque no tenga ventas sujetas a impuestos.  Si el negocio se localiza en una zona que no es comercial, se requiere un Certificado de Ocupación del Hogar.  

 

P.         ¿Como obtengo una Licencia de Impuestos de Ventas y Uso de La Ciudad de Longmont?

R.        Necesita que llenar una aplicación para la licencia y entregarla al Departamento de Impuestos de Venta, ubicado en el Centro Cívico de Longmont.  Puede obtener una aplicación llamando al 303-651-8672 o visitando el sito www.longmontcolorado.gov  en la red.

 

P.         ¿Hay un costo por la licencia?

R.        Si, hay una cuota de $25.00, la licencia no se tiene que renovar es efectiva hasta que sea cancelada por el dueño. 

 

P.         ¿Necesito algunas otras licencias?

P. ¿Qué hago cuando necesito modificar uno de mis formularios de impuestos de venta y uso?

P.         ¿Necesito que llenar una forma de regreso de impuestos si no tuve ventas?

R.         La forma de regreso de impuestos se necesita que llenar por cada periodo aunque no tenga ventas o no haya coleccionado impuestos.



P.         ¿Si soy contratista y todos los impuestos se pagan en el permiso de obras, ¿todavía tengo que obtener una Licencia de Impuesto sobre Ventas y el impuesto sobre el Uso?

R.         Habido un cambio en el Código de la Ciudad: si usted es un contratista, y tiene una licencia de contratista con la Ciudad de Longmont, y siempre obtiene un permiso para sus proyectos (usted ya paga el impuesto sobre el uso de los materiales en el momento en que se obtiene el permiso) y No recaudaremos ningún impuesto sobre las ventas de la Ciudad de Longmont. En ese caso ya no es necesario obtener una Licencia de Impuesto sobre Ventas y Uso de la Ciudad de Longmont.


P.         ¿Si soy un negocio de servicio y no tengo ventas sujetas a impuestos necesito una Licencia de Impuestos de Ventas y Uso?

R.         El Código Municipal requiere que todas entidades "operando" en La Ciudad de Longmont tenga una Licencia de Impuestos de Ventas y Uso.

What types of assistance can GovOS provide to me?
GovOS can assist you with all your system and technical questions. Whether you have a question about your account or technical questions about how to do something in GovOS, please reach out to our support team. 
Where are my tax forms? My Action Center is empty.
Your tax forms will be available on the 1st day of the month following the last day of the tax period. For example, for monthly filers, the January 2019 tax forms will be available in your Action Center on February 1, 2019. If you do not see the forms you expected, simply contact GovOS support for assistance.
Can I manage multiple businesses with one login?
Yes - to do so, click Add accounts from your user login under Manage Your Account(s). You will need your 6 digit Account Number and the GovOS Activation Code to connect to an existing business record.
Can a business have more than one user?
Yes, each business can have an unlimited number of users. Each user is required to provide the 6 digit Account Number and the GovOS Activation code to be authorized to connect to an existing business record. 
I did not receive or I misplaced the letter with my activation code. What do I do?
Contact GovOS blt.str.support@govos.com or by phone at (888) 751-1911 for assistance. You will need to confirm account details to be verified for the account. To protect the security on business accounts, you will need written (e-mail) permission from a registered owner or officer of the business for us to provide you with a new activation code. 
Can I file a Zero File tax return through GovOS?
To file a zero file tax form, select your tax form from your Action Center. Then, complete the required information on the remittance, including Gross Sales and any deductions. You will be prompted to confirm your desire to complete the return as a Zero File return. You must complete a zero cost check out for your return to be marked as complete and filed. 
What payment types are accepted by the City through GovOS?
The City accepts ACH Debit, or e-check as well as credit card payments.
Can I schedule a payment in GovOS?
For your security, GovOS does not store any payment information in the system. You will need to enter your desired payment information each time you check out.
What if I want to file my report online but mail in my check or pay in person?
The new system will allow you to file online and make your payment separately by mail or in person. Simply fill out the form online and then save and return to the business center (do no proceed to checkout instead please mail or pay in person the total due).  However, please note that your Sales and Use Tax filing will not be considered complete until the The City of Longmont receives your payment. The City will honor either the date you bring it in person or the post mark date. Late payments may result in lost discounts, penalties, and interest.
How do I change the User on a Business?
All users need to register, just as you did, by going to the home page for that jurisdiction. They will click on the "Go" button under "New Users". They will also need the 6 digit account number and Activation Code for the business.
I forgot my password. What do I do? 
From the Log In page, click the "Forgot your password" link and follow the instructions that will be e-mailed to the User's registered e-mail address.
Do I have to login to GovOS to see my alerts and reminders?
No. All alerts are e-mailed to your authenticated e-mail address. When you login to the system, you will also see any open alerts that need to be addressed in your Action Center.
